Excursions and hiking
Before and after the Catholic Monarchs: Granada is an ancient city: the Bronze Age, the Iberians, the Romans, the Visigoths, the Arabs and the Castilians all left a mark.
Santa Fe, the end of the Conquest: The Granada town of Santa Fe, built by order of the Catholic Monarchs in 1491, preserves its initial cross-shaped structure, symbol of the triumph of the monarchy over the Muslims, almost intact.
Camino de los Molinos: The town of Víznar was founded as a result of the presence of the Fuente Grande and the construction of the Aynadamar canal which carried water to the Granada neighbourhood of El Albaicín during the 11th century.
Caves and crosses of the Sierra de la Alfaguara: The Sierra de la Alfaguara, located in the geographic centre of the province of Granada, has several natural caves, such as the Gato cave and the Marmoles cave, of great beauty despite being little-known.
Lorca, corner by corner: a journey for lovers of literature and, above all, of the poetry of Federico García Lorca; a way of learning about and understanding the origins and career of the most universal Granada poet. The Fuente del Fraile-Sanatorio route offers majestic natural views at all times of the year. Along this road you can visit a recreational area, trenches from the Spanish Civil War and the remains of an old sanatorium.
A walk of the five senses through the Albaicín : Windows to history exist. As well as its doors. One of them is in Elvira where a route begins past the Muslim relics that has the Dar-al-Horra Palace as its core.
Following Dumas' footsteps: On October 27, 1846 a group of travellers arrived in Granada from Jaén. Among them were two of the most famous writers of French literature: Alexander Dumas and his son by the same name.
Guided by water: Fuente Grande, located in the Sierra de la Alfaguara and spring from which the Aynadamar canal is nourished, is the starting point. The second part of the excursion takes place in the Sierra de Huétor Natural Park.
A modern enclave with prehistoric roots: Las Gabias is full of traces of the civilizations that have once chosen it as a settlement: the peoples of the Argaric culture, then from the Romans and the Arabs to the current inhabitants.
Juan Ramón Jiménez, wounded by Granada: The trip to Granada by the Huelva-born writer Juan Ramón Jiménez with his wife Zenobia arose from his friendship with Federico García Lorca and was a profound experience that would be reflected in his literature.
Dehesa del Generalife: The 458 hectares of the Dehesa del Generalife shelter a rich natural heritage, which boasts more than 200 vegetal and 111 animal species.
The fruits of architectural rationalism in Granada: The buildings originated by the new language of rationalism and rationalism-expressionism remain anonymous for the general public, an anonymity imposed by a city rich in architectural heritage.
